David Bassanese is a Sydney based economist. He is Chief Economist at BetaShares, Australia’s leading independent provider of exchange traded products (ETPs), with over $A1 billion under management.

David was previously senior columnist with the Australian Financial Review, where his columns on economic and financial market trends appeared several times per week. He also wrote a monthly column for Smart Investor magazine.

David spent several years in financial markets as a senior economist and interest rate strategist at Bankers Trust and Macquarie Bank.

David started his career at the Federal Treasury in Canberra, after which he spent several years as a research economist at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France.

David was also co-founder of Cafe Oz, the first Australian theme bar in Paris France,

David has an Honours degree (First Class) in Economics from the University of Adelaide, and a Masters in Public Policy (MPP) degree from The Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

David is author of The Australian ETF Guide: cheap & easy investment strategies using exchange traded funds (ETFs). He is also author of The Australian Investors Guide to Asset Allocation.
